CONFIGURATIONS INSIDE LNG TERMINALS


 

 

Vanessa Series 30,000 cryogenic valves are used in LNG terminals across the world to handle almost the entire spectrum of functions, from manual isolation to control, from actuated ON-OFFs to ESDs. Although cryogenic buttweld side entry valves are often specified during FEED phase, EPCs are increasingly discovering the advantages of switching to top entry valves thanks to their high operability and safety. Manufactured with a top-entry buttweld body style, Emerson Vanessa delivers its standard top-level performance combined with the benefits of easy access to the trim components.

The choice of a buttweld body in LNG terminals derives from the need to reduce risks generated by gas leakage and this is becoming more and more common around the world. Often, inline maintenance capabilities are also required and, as the valve market is mainly responding with side entry solutions, these types of valves are often specified. A side entry valve features a hatch on one side in order to allow operators to access the valve trim by hands, arms or even by physically entering inside the pipe in case of large sizes. While a simple inspection may be considered practical, real maintenance or repair work becomes extremely difficult or impossible for maintenance personnel. In addition, there are serious hazards for the safety of people and plant operation alike.

Vanessa Series 30,000's core benefits derive from using a robust triple offset non-rubbing design with Stellite® seat overlays and solid seal rings for this cryogenic application. These features produce a valve with an extremely long lifecycle and maintenance becomes largely unnecessary. Inline access requirement is however guaranteed through our top entry design, should unpredictable and extraordinary valve repair needs arise. With Vanessa Series 30,000 cryogenic top entry valves, direct interventions on all trim components in order to improve operability or tightness can be carried out in total safety (i.e. by removing the trim), thus avoiding exposure to health risks for operators working in direct contact with the pipe.

Emerson Vanessa has developed almost four decades of experience in cryogenic valve manufacturing. Initially available only as double flanged, our cryogenic valve has evolved in a range of different body styles to respond to market developments across the LNG supply chain, from LNG plants (e.g.: Gorgon, Pluto, Woodside in Australia) to the latest in FLNG technologies (Prelude). In China, where LNG storage, transport and regasification capabilities are being enormously increased, Emerson Vanessa has installed cryogenic buttweld top entry valves across all the largest terminals including Shanghai LNG, Jiangsu LNG, Dalian LNG, Tang Shan LNG, ZhuHai LNG and Hainan LNG. In the USA and Europe, our top entries have also gained momentum with Terminal Montoir De Bretagne (France) and Polskie LNG (Poland) among the key references developed over the past few years.
